craftmanship and design
Since 1839, a continuous drive for innovation has brought Van Besouw to where it is today: a leading supplier of contemporary carpets. Craftsmanship and innovation are at the heart of everything we do. The Van Besouw collection is put together with the utmost care. From fiber to yarn and from back to pile, all carpets are thought through to the smallest detail, using the latest production techniques. Only the best materials are good enough. High quality and durable, made to last and with consideration for people and the environment.
At Van Besouw, all carpets are developed based on a careful selection of materials, textures and colors. The designs and color palettes are a balanced mix of the latest trends and timeless classics, all designed in the Netherlands. They exude class, luxury and comfort and give every room the right character. A Van Besouw carpet or rug stands for exclusive design, elegance and sophistication. It gives you a passionate feeling; you don't just see it, you feel it.
Production techniques
Van Besouw distinguishes itself in the manufacture of knitted carpets. This innovative technique results in carpets with exceptional pile strength and long life.
The production process is similar to knitting textiles: a cotton or wool cloth with a width of up to 400 cm is created from multiple threads. The carpets are distinguished by their unique structures and the characteristic writing effect, where the loops or cut poles fall in different directions, creating a dynamic visual pattern.
Weaving is a sophisticated manufacturing technique in which yarns are woven together in a structured pattern.
This process combines two thread directions: warp (longitudinal threads) and weft (transverse threads), which are precisely worked together.
Through variation in weaving techniques and material selection, different textures, patterns and properties can be created. This makes woven carpets not only visually distinctive, but also functionally versatile, with applications in both residential and commercial environments.
Tufting is an advanced production method in which yarns are mechanically incorporated into a substrate. During this process, needles bring the yarns through a primary backing and provide a firm anchorage. Depending on the finish, the yarn loops remain uncut (loop pile) or are cut (cut pile), leading to varying structures and textures.
Playing with tufting techniques and material combinations creates diverse designs and properties. This makes tufted carpets versatile, from luxurious high-pile rugs to durable floor coverings for intensive use.
PRODUCT NAMES
Our carpets do not bear names, but numbers - a choice that leaves room for personal interpretation. With time, these numbers naturally become well known.
Take, for example, the iconic 3801: a true design classic instantly recognized by fans of our collection.
The numbering is anything but random. The first digit refers to the material used, the second to the production method, and the last two form a serial number. Thus, each number tells a story, unique and thoughtful.
