EXCELLENCE SINCE 1839

1839

Founding

Van Besouw was founded in 1839 in Goirle by home weavers led by Jan van Besouw, an innovator in organization, product development and social conditions. What began with the weaving of jute sacks laid the foundation for a company known more than 180 years later for high quality and unique carpet.

1885

Opening factory

Van Besouw opened its first factory, marking the transition from home weaving to industrial production. Here began the production of linen and jute bags, an important step in the company's growth.

1949

Weaving machine

In 1949, the Wilton weaving machines were introduced, an important milestone in the company's history. The production of broadloom carpets marked a new phase, in which Van Besouw developed into a pioneer in the field of high-quality flooring.

Benno Premsela

Leading industrial designer Benno Premsela was invited to take Van Besouw to the next level. With his vision and creativity, he laid the foundation for the next step in design and innovation.

Van Besouw as a brand

The introduction of the brand name reinforced the company's unique identity. The slogan “It's not just a carpet ... it's a Van Besouw” underscored the focus on quality, craftsmanship and distinctive design.

Turnaround in history

The launch of cotton carpets, produced on raschel knitting machines, marked a turning point in Van Besouw's history. This innovative step strengthened the brand as a pioneer in the carpet industry.

PURE RUGS collection

The PURE RUGS collection, introduced in 2003, emphasizes pure, natural materials and contemporary designs. With fibers such as wool and sisal, the collection combines craftsmanship and innovation, contributing to both aesthetics and sustainability.

2010

Relocation to Genemuiden

In 2010, Van Besouw was acquired by Hillfloor. The tradition of cotton carpets continued and the brand's vision was maintained, with continued innovation in special colors and products. The location was moved to Genemuiden, also known as the carpet city, where the brand could continue to grow within the region's rich carpet history.

PREM collection

The introduction of the Van Besouw PREM collection in 2012 brought a polyamide contract collection based on Van Besouw's core values.

Reintroduction of the cotton collection

The cotton collection was reintroduced, with an updated color palette and new qualities. This reintroduction emphasized the continued focus on cotton as a core material, with a contemporary twist in both design and sustainability.

Van Besouw Atelier

The Van Besouw Atelier is an area where craftsmanship, innovation and design come together. Here, carpets are produced in various colors, structures, shapes and sizes, completely tailored to the customer's wishes. The atelier is known for making unique, custom-made carpets with a strong focus on handwork and craftsmanship.

Introduction Allure collection

With the addition of the Allure Collection, Van Besouw offers carpets that excel in sophistication and luxury. Using sustainable materials such as Econyl and PA yarns, the Allure Collection emphasizes environmentally friendly features.

Brand Center Amsterdam

The Hillfloor Brand Center, opening in 2024, is an important new location for Van Besouw and the other Hillfloor Group brands. The location is an inspiring space where visitors can experience Van Besouw's carpets in various colors and materials. The center serves as a meeting place for designers and relations.
